“A generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water” (Proverbs 11:25).
Lord, help me not be a taker but a tender,
Lord, help me not be a whiner but a worker,
Lord, help me not be a getter but a giver,
Lord, help me not be a hindrance but a help,
Lord, help me not be a critic but a catalyst for good.
–Marion Wright Elderman, “Guide My Feet.”
When we turn our focus away from our own neediness and, instead, turn our energies toward helping others in need, we are surprisingly enriched, and often we discover that we are not really as needy as we once thought we were.
